Match report - Midsomer
Norton
With the main square still very wet the Biddestone 15 A team had their
game switched to the Astro pitch on the bottom ground, despite a freshly cut outfield the
damp and softness of the grass meant few boundaries would be hit!
Biddestone batted first, Liam and Tom opened the batting making a solid start taking
singles and keeping the scoreboard ticking over, Liam fell first trying an expansive hit
over the top, this brought Rhys to the wicket with his brother, these two kept the board
ticking before Tom was out, Kane joined Rhys and made sure Rhys who was now starting to
open his shoulders was on strike as much as possible, Rhys continued to hit the bowling at
will and hit two particularly big sixes in the middle of his innings, With Jack hitting a
breezy dozen including one very hard hit four! At the end Biddestone closed on 128 for the
loss of 3 wickets.
With the sun going down and the due now settling it
was always going to be a difficult for Norton to score at the required rate, Rhys and
Chris opened the bowling and kept the rate down below 3 and this despite a few wides! The
skipper rang the changes and made sure everyone kept warm and involved, the highlights of
the evening were two excellent catches by Ollie, the second a super one handed effort!
(What a catch rang round the ground!!) Good to see two new boys bowl towards the end, well
done Will and Mike.
With the light now becoming very poor and several
players commenting they couldn't see the bowl, the two umpires conferred (they couldn't
see it either) and agreed that the game should finish for safety reasons two over's early,
with Norton requiring 60+ off these over's it was agreed Biddestone would take the win.
15's coach Andy was very satisfied with the win and would look forward to Wednesday nights
County cup game at Canal Taverners! With a full fit squad available for selection
Match report - Hinton
Charterhouse
On a cold but bright evening at Biddestone the Under 15s season got
under way with a game against Hinton Charterhouse, Biddestone took the field and Hinton
struggled against a very good Attack with 3 County Trial bowlers from the weekend all
bowling in good areas, the Spin of Kenco then came and on and some excellent outfield
catching. (Matt and Ollie) saw wickets fall at regular intervals, Rob Poole had a hatrick
chance and Rhys, Liam, and Chris all bowled tight at the death. Hinton finished on 70 for
the loss of 7!
A quick between innings break saw Biddestone openers to the wicket, Alex and Matt making a
steady start with Alex looking particularly solid, Matt was caught clipping one off his
legs, Liam joined Alex and the pair started to knock the ball around picking up singles
and keeping the board ticking. A change of bowling as so often happens saw Liam caught at
square leg off a top edge! Rhys came to the wicket and immediately took the game to Hinton
hitting one particular boundary through cover that was superb. However Hinton's Skipper
rang the changes well and always had Biddestone needing 4 an over for the last 5 over's,
he also bowled himself and in the gloom he was quite sharp, (square leg umpire was
struggling to see it!!) Ollie came to the wicket when Rhys departed and found it difficult
to score and when he was out it left Alex and Mike to get too many off the last over from
the Hinton Skipper who was now very difficult to see!!!
The after match discussion was positive and the Batting of Alex (Kenco) showed he has good
application, all agreed the need to keeping the strike rotating was important and they
would take that into Sundays Local Derby with Chippenham. Biddestone 0 Points, Hinton 4
Points.
