Communication and Support.

Part 1. Communication

Internal Communication and Ownership

Gain their input and feedback about the direction of the club and its future development.

How do you communicate with your
club members and supporters?

The more people that know about your club development plan the better.

A suggestion is to ensure all club members receive or at least have access to the full club development plan and / or a summarised version.

The person(s) responsible for your club development plan should communicate the plan widely throughout the club.

To support the cycle above we suggest you appoint a Club Development Manager.

You can access a job description for a Club Development Manager by going to http://static.ecb.co.uk/files/cricket-club-development-manager-job-description-425.doc

Is your County Cricket Board aware of what your club is trying to achieve?

How can your club help the County Cricket Board to achieve its goals?

How are you going to engage with the County Cricket Board to support the successful delivery of your club development plan – how can they help you?

Local Education Network

Have you involved representatives from local schools and the education network in your club development planning process?

This could include local schools teachers, your local Partnership Development Manager, or school sport co-ordinator.

Are these people aware of what your club is trying to achieve?

How can your club help local schools and teachers to achieve their goals?

What resources, support and information can your local education network provide you – how can they help you to achieve your goals?

Local Sports Development Network

Have you involved representatives from your local sports development networks in your club development planning process?

This could include your local authority sports development officer, your county sports partnership or local volunteer centres.

Are these people aware of what you are
trying to achieve?

How can your club help the local sports development network to achieve their goals?

How are you going to engage with the local sports development network to secure support and resources that will help your club
achieve its objectives?

Instructions:   In the box below, briefly document how you will manage and ensure ownership of the club development planning process?

How will you communicate and engage club members, supporters and external people and organisations to support the delivery of your club development plan?

This should include who and how you communicate with currently, and who and how you plan to communicate with in the future.

Internal Communication and Ownership:

The club's Development Plan is drafted and maintained by the Club Secretary whilst the content is agreed by the Club Development Manager and the club's Development
Committee.

Final sign-off of the Development Plan rests with the club's Management Committee.

Once agreed, a copy of the plan is posted on the club's website and is made available in the club library which is maintained in the clubhouse.

A copy of the Development Plan is available to all members (senior and junior) and other interested parties on request and that is made clear in the club's membership pack
which is distributed to all members each April.

This process will continue in 2008.

External Communication and Ownership:

We currently publish our Development Plan in full on the clubs website. It is also kept in the club's 'library' in the clubhouse / village hall, where it is available to players,
non-players and anyone using the community facility.

In 2008, we will continue (as we did in 2007) to make a copy of the Development Plan available to our four linked primary schools and two linked secondary schools
on request. (We will make sure the Chance to Shine co-ordinator makes the schools aware of the existence of the plan).

We will communicate  our plan to the North Wiltshire Sports Development Officer (Alex Muse) through the ad hoc Development Group meetings.

Steve Silk, our ECB Cricket Development Manager, conveys the support and resources available to us through our Wiltshire County Cricket Board.

Part 2. Support

Cricket Development Groups.

Regular attendance at your local cricket development group will give your cricket club the opportunity to share best practice and gain vital knowledge and understanding from other cricket clubs going through the club development planning process.

You may stumble upon challenges that are similar to other cricket clubs, and the opportunity to use the cricket development group as a sounding block and share your thoughts is vital support.

Your County Cricket Development Manager will be accessible through your local cricket development group.  Contact your County Cricket Development Manager to find out the details of your local cricket development group.

It is vital that the information gained at cricket development group meetings is communicated back and filtered to the whole club membership after each meeting.

Cricket clubs can be supported
through the club development
planning process in a variety
of different ways.

Self Help.

Identify within your club the people that
have right ‘skills’ to contribute to the
club development planning process.

Approach these people to get involved
and contribute the expertise they have.

Looking ‘in house’ is an excellent base to begin your club development planning process.

Such skills may include:

  Analytical / business planning skills

  Report writing skills

An understanding of information communication technology

  Financial / accounting skills

  Performance review skills

One to One club meetings.

A raft of clubs will receive dedicated one to one meetings with Cricket Development Managers and local sports development professionals, directly supporting the writing and delivery of their club development plan.

One to one meetings are an excellent opportunity to discuss in detail the objectives of your club and gain invaluable advice and support from local knowledgeable professionals.

Contact your County Cricket Development Manager to find out more.

Instructions:   In the box below outline the methods of support you are engaging to support the delivery of your club development plan.

Identify who, what, why and when.

This should include support you currently receive, and support you plan to pursue in the future.

Self Help:

We have appointed Andy Short as Club Development Manager based on the job description provided by the ECB.

We will seek further specialist skills (e.g. marketing skills, fund-raising skills etc) through the AGM, other meetings, social events and through the two websites
(our own and the Play Cricket site). We will also investigate ways in which we could re-visit the question of a skills audit, possibly as part of the 2008 membership
pack.

Cricket Development Groups:

The club will endeavour to re-constitute the club's Development Committee, which did not meet in 2007 due to a lack of suitable leadership. In 2007, development matters
were covered in the main Management Committee meetings as a formal agenda item.

A representitive of the club's Development Committee will attend the North Wiltshire Cricket Development Group.

Where possible a representitive of the team running our Chance to Shine programme will also attend the North Wiltshire Cricket Development Group meetings.

A summary of each meeting will be fed back to the Development Committee and, where considered appropriate, to the club's Management Committee.

The club will continue to fully support Focus Club Project Forums (such as the Ladies / Girls Forum) and other ECB-sponsored group such as the Funding Forum
(due to meet in Oct 2007).

One to One club meetings:

We hold a number of one-to-one meetings with Steve Silk, the ECB Cricket Development Manager for Wiltshire on a number of issues. We will continue with these
ad-hoc meetings.

Given the work we have put into achieving Focus Club status, we are seeking proactive support from Steve Silk and Alex Muse for specific funding to support
continued development in 2008.
