impressive total of 255 for 3 from 42 overs. Dave Bray (1 for 57) and Adam Corcoran (1 for
13) were the pick of the Purton bowlers.
Purton looked in trouble at 8 for 4 from 8 overs but a superb hard-hitting knock from Dave
Bray with 101 put the visitors back in with a chance. Despite good support from Liam
WIlliams (35) and Paul Fletcher (11), Purton feel short in the end, reaching 192 all out.
(Biddestone 21 pts, Purton 6). |
| Monday 15th May |
Westbury |
Following the
frustration of games lost to the rain, the Under 15's returned to winning ways against
Westbury. A steadily built total of 117 was thanks to Martin Sawyer with 54, Tim
Knight with 24 and Paul Walden who was 20 not out.
Once Westbury had lost their county player, Medhi Ibrahim in the second over, they made no
attempt at the target and finished on 63-4. James Howells took 1 for 7 and Jamie Penton 1
for 4. |
| Thursday 1st June |

Despite a shaky start,
Biddestone progressed to the second round of the County Cup with victory at Wootton
Bassett.
After a shaky start, Biddestone recovered from 12 for 3 to reach 111 for 7 in their 20
overs. Andrew Lawton top scored with 43 and put on 38 with Josh Boulton (10) and 50 with
Michael Flynn (22).
Wootton Bassett never really threatened the total with "wides" the top score
thanks to some wayward bowling.Jamie Penton took 1 for 5, Josh Bouton 1 for 12 and Andrew
Lawton 2 for 10 to seal a second round game against tournament favourites South Wilts. |
| Friday 2nd June |
Chippenham |
Biddestone won the toss
and elected to bat on a hot afternoon. The opening pair of Martin Sawyer (23) and Tim
Knight (20) put on 50 for the first wicket before Martin was caught and bowled by Dan
Brown. From there the total was built steadily, Andrew Lawton top scoring with 69 not out.
Dan Brown (is it Dan or David?) was the pick of the Chippenham bowlers with 2 for 50.
When the visitors batted the game remained in the balance while hard-hitting Marcus Brown
was at the wicket. However, when he was bowled by Paul Walden three short of his 50, the
visitors decided to play out a draw and finished 50 short of the Biddestone total.
Biddestone used 8 bowlers in an attempt to take wickets with Andrew Lawton taking 2 for 19
from his 9 overs |
| Sunday 4th June |
Malmesbury |
Malmesbury took a
wicket in the first over, but it was hard toil from there as Tim Knight and Paul Walden
remained undefeated as Biddestone reached 222 for 1 declared from 41 overs. Tim Knight hit
129 not out and was well supported by Paul Walden who reached 59 not out, James Ellison
was the only successful wicket taker with 1 for 36.

to 28 all out in 26 overs. Josh Boulton took 2 for 4, James Howells 2 for 7 and Ben
Copeland 3 for 4. |
| Monday 5th June |
Chippenham |
Biddestone completed a
good few days with victory in the Bath League Cup against Chippenham. An excellent opening
spell by James Howells (4 overs, 1 for 5) restricted the visitors to just 82 for 4.
Despite the early loss of Martin Sawyer, TIm Knight then continued where he left off the
previous day smashing a quick 40. .Andrew Lawton hit the winning runs with 9 balls to
spare. |
| Monday 12th June |
Bath 1 |
As usual another fine
game of cricket against Bath, but defeat by five runs in a dramatic run-chase. Batting
first Bath reached an imposing 125 with Josh Boulton being the most economical of the
bowlers.
The home team began with determination, but the unfortunate run out of Martin Sawyer for
just 8 slowed progress and although Tim Knight hit some glorious drives, Bidds were
struggling when he departed for 20. Andrew Lawton pushed the score upwards and he reached
52 not out, but in the end the home side fell just five runs short in a tantilisingly
close finish followed by much talk of "what might have been". |
| Friday 16th June |
South Wilts |
The Under 15's bounced
back with a very good County Cup victory over South Wilts. Biddestone made the usual
excellent start but when Martin Sawyer went for 30, the innings stuttered and a final
total of 99 looked a little short given the County talent in the visitor's team.
However, the Under 15's fought back and once openers Robert Pitman and Dan Sycklemore had
gone to Andrew Lawton, the visitors also began to struggle and in the end fell 11 short. |
| Sunday 18th June |
Devizes |
After being asked to
bat, Devizes recovered from 0 for 3, to reach 107 all out in 35.1 overs. Chris Webb (26)
and Tom Ren (25 not out) top scored. Biddestone's opening bowlers did the main damage with
James Howells 2 for 2 from 5 overs and Jamie Penton 1 for 8 from 5 overs.
Despite losing Tim Knight early, Biddestone made it to the required total in 33.5 overs
for the loss of three wickets. Martin Sawyer top scored with 42, Andrew Lawton and Paul
Walden both made 17. Chris Webb took 1 for 26 from 9 and Alex Cox 1 for 19 from 7.5. |
| Monday 19th June |
Lansdown |
Biddestone made the
best of the wet conditions at Lansdown. Josh Boulton top score with 32 including a
straight six and a reverse sweep (for 1) and Michael Flynn scored an excellent 27.
With the opening Penton / Howells attack unable to hold the wet ball it was left to the
slower bowlers (and Paul Walden). Paul took 3 for 15, Andrew Lawton 2 for 10 and Nat
Jansen polished off the tail with 4 for 13. |
| Wednesday 28th June |
Swindon |
The Under 15's made it
safely through to the final of the County Cup with an efficient performance against a
strong Swindon outfit. Another solid opening partnership saw Martin Sawyer reach 43 and
Tim Knight 21 as the home side made a good start. With Andrew Lawton scoring 25 not out,
Biddestone would have preferred 10 more than the 115 they finished on.
Swindon struggled early on but the tide turned with the arrival of Tom Davies (County
player and Swindon 2nds). He almost single-handedly turned things around, but was bowled
by Paul Walden at the crucial point. The visitors finished 13 short on 102 |
| Sunday 2nd July |
Bishops Cannings |
Biddestone won at
Cannings by 60 runs. Batting first, the visitors got of to a slow start recahing 36-0

middle order collapse, Josh Boulton (39) and James Howells (13 no) took the score to 212
all out. Will Gaiger took 5 for 57 and Rory Brown 2 for 36.
Josh Boulton (3 for 22) and James Howells (2 for 23) soon got amongst the wickets, but
Cannings recovered from 67 for 5 thanks to B Baker (39) and Rory Brown (34). However, once
the seventh wicket fell at 148 to the bowling of Josh Boulton, the home side only managed
another three runs, closing on 152 all out. |

Chippenham, thanks to a superb all-round team perffiormance. After being 22 off 2 overs,
the batsmen never looked back and despite losing Tim Knight for 17, Andrew Lawton (44 no
off 31 balls) and Martin Sawyer (52 no) shared an unbeated 95 partnership to post an
impressive 136 for 1 in 20 overs.
With four county batsmen, Chippenham could easily have reached the total, but when Jamie
Penton took three of them and then caught the other with a diving catch, Chippenham fell
well short. Jamie Penton took 4 for 18 and Andrew Lawton 3 for 3 as the home side closed
on 90 for 8 after 20 overs |
| Thursday 6th July |
County Cup Final vs Purton |
Unfortunately the game
started late, and Purton won the toss and decided to field first. Martin Sawyer (50*) and
Tim Knight (18) got Biddestone off to a good start and after Knight was caught at mid off,
Andrew Lawton (39) continued the momentum and Biddestone finished on 124-1 in their twenty
overs.
As the gloom set in Purton began their innings with Damien Bray (49) top scoring and
wickets coming from Micheal Steans (2), Jamie Penton and the other Biddestone bowlers all
chipping in with good performances. Purton's innnings ended in the dark but they just fell
short in the end with 106 all out. |
| Friday 7th July |

fell 30 runs short in the end. |
| Sunday 16th July |
Ventnor (IOW) |
Biddestone Under 15's
lost to a very strong Ventnor side boasting 4 Hampshire county players (including the
county captain) and a West of England player.
Batting first Biddestone posted a respecatable 103 with Martin Sawyer making 26, Paul
Walden 25 and Andrew Lawton 22 not out.. In reply Biddestone got off to a dreadful start,
but from 30 for 0 after 3 , they clawed their way back into the game. Jamie Penton was the
top bowler with 1 for 14 from 4 and James Harper took 2 for 4 from 2 overs. Andrew Lawton
took 1 for 19 and Paul Walden 1 for 27, but the visitors reached the target with 10 balls
to spare. |
| Monday 17th July |
Keynsham |
Biddestone were well
short of their best in defeating Keynsham by just 6 runs. Martin Sawyer scored 59, and
Josh Boulton hit an excellent 34 to help post a good total. However. for once, the bowling
and fielding was below par and it needed a solid last over from Josh Boulton to see the
lads home. |
| Sunday 23rd July |
Keynsham |
Bath
League Cup - Semi-Final Biddestone Under 15's reached the League Cup Final
for the second year in succession with a hard-fought victory at Keynsham.
Batting first only Marton Sawyer got to grips with the difficult wet pitch making 25, but
with a grafting innings from Paul Walden, Biddestone recahed 86 for 5 after 20 overs.
However, Keynsham also found run-getting difficult and never recovered from 6 for 3 in the
fourth over. In the end they reached 65 all out, Josh Boulton (1 for 5), James Howells (2
for 10), Paul Walden (3 for 14) and Jamie Penton (2 for 9) all bowled well and, crucially,
there was only one extra in the innings. |
| Monday 24th July |
Hinton Charterhouse |
Martin
Sawyer scored his maiden century from 72 balls and Tim Knight hit 70 not out from 50
balls, as the Under 15's racked up 174-0 at Hinton Charterhouse. All the bowlers chipped
in to leave the home side well short on 97 for 5 |
| Tuesday 25th July |
Bath 1 |
A third
defeat of the season came at Bath in a game we probably should have won. Too many 4-balls
from the bowlers allowed Bath to reach 120 for 5, Jamie Penton taking 3 for 15.
Unfotunately the run-scoring of the previous evening was not as easy as conditions, a low
pitch and accurate bowling kept the scoring rate down. In the end the total was well short
despite 34 from martin Sawyer and 23 not out from Michael Flynn |
| Sunday 30th July |
Trowbridge |
In an
attempt to maximise points and maintain our league challenge, Biddestone fielded first and
restricted Trowbridge to 89 from 45 overs. James Howells 2 for 7 from 9, Jamie Penton 2
for 12 from 8.
Three wickets were lost in reaching the modest total. Martin Sawyer top scoring with 38. |

a very strong South Wilts side, fielding at least 4 county regulars, little went to plan.
Andrew Lawton took 1 for 34 from 9 overs and Paul Walden 1 for 43 as the home side racked
up 231 for 2.
In reply Biddestone never receovered from 14 for 4 and despite an excellent 24 from Josh
Boulton and 16 from Michael Flynn, they failed to reach three figures |
| Sunday 27th August |

saw the home team home with three balls to spare. |
| Monday 28th August |
Lansdown |
Biddestone Under 15s
completed a brilliant double on Monday as they won the Bath Youth League Cup for the
second year running to go along with the County Cup they won early in the year. It was a
brilliant team performance which concluded in a 43 run win, leaving captain Andrew Lawton
and coach Andy Short very pleased. "It was a impressive team performance, with
contributions from everyone. We knew we could do it if we performed at our best"
commented Andrew.
Andrew got Biddestone off to a good start by winning the toss and electing to bat on a
green, damp track. Tim Knight took the game by the scruff of the neck with a hard hitting
24 of just 23 balls to remove any nerves in the Biddestone dressing room. Martin Sawyer
(27) and Andrew Lawton (29) also contributed with the bat, but in-form bat, Michael Flynn
was unlucky to be LBW, trying to pick up the pace. A middle order collapse that followed
meant that from 89-1, Biddestone were 95-6 before James Howells bludgeoned 14 off the last
over to give Biddestone the advantage as the 1st innings came to an end on 115 for 7.
Josh Boulton (0-15) kept the pressure on the Lansdown with a spell of very tight seam
bowling and, with his opening partner James Howells taking 2-15 thanks to a great catch
from Matt Hayes at mid wicket Lansdown were left at 11-2 at one stage. Then it was the
turn of the spinners. Andrew Lawton (3-20) and Nat Jansen bowled very economically in
their 4 overs, Nat deserving his excellent figures of 4 overs. 1 maiden 3 wickets for 7
runs. Two sharp stumpings, one off each bowler, really helped as Jamie Harlowe stepped up
with a good performance behind the stumps. Jamie Penton and Paul Walden finished of an
impressive bowling display with full and straight bowling which allowed Paul to bag two
more wickets and finish the game in the final over. Lansdown finished 72 all out, when a
diving catch from Martin Sawyer secured victory for Biddestone.
After the game there was even time for a quick thank you presentation for Andy Short from
the skipper before the team finished their celebrations. Andrew complimented his coach's
commitment throughout the year, "I can't think of a training session he has missed,
we've set ourselves very high standards and he's helped us to achieve them, so much credit
for our achievements must go to him". Andrew also thanked the Biddestone crowd,
"The amount of fans we had today, was excellent, it has been great support for all
the lads on the pitch, they have followed us to every game this year which has been really
great." |
