Second team news

Saturday 2nd September
Match cancelled without a ball being bowled

Saturday 26th August
Biddestone lost the toss and were asked to bat. After 31 overs with the score of only 99 and having lost 4 wkts it looked as if the decision of the visitors to bowl had been the correct one. Martin Sawyer (4) and John Lawton (9) were both back in the pavilion with the score on 31. Chris Lawton (42) and Ben McElhinney put-on 57 runs for the 3rd wkt before Chris was out. Ben was the next one out, also caught, for 26. Nick Hudson (20) and Andrew Lawton (54no) then put-on 53 runs for the 5th wkt and with minor contributons from the later batsmen Biddestone were able to finish on 193 runs for 7 wkts in their alloted 44 overs (reduced due to rain).
When the visitors batted the only two batsmen to achieve double figures were Joe Willgoss (16no) and James Jones (10) but as they had no support from the other batsmen, the team were all-out for 58 in the 28th over. Runs were not easy to score off the opening bowling of Alex Leadbeater and Gordon Bedwell who finished with 6 wkts for 28 runs off 13 overs. He was well supported by Mike Tasker with 2 wkts for 7 runs off 6 overs (4 maidens), Alex Leadbeater with 1 wkt for 11 runs off 6 overs and Andrew Lawton who had the last batsman caught by Gordon Bedwell off his first ball.
The Lawton family scored 105 runs (54%) between the three of them and with Andrew taking a wicket with his first ball and a fine catch in the slips for John to dismiss the opener Adam Gyde, it was a good day for the family.
