The
Under 13's, with all respect to them, were probably the suprise package of the 2002
season. From a group that struggled in the 2001 season, the nucleus of the side remained
intact and had a very successful season in the cup competitions.
Although league
victories for some inexplicable reason remained illusive, the team memorably reached the
Subaru County Cup Final losing to a Chippenham side full of county players. The game will
long be remembered however for the six from Josh Barnes into the nearby gardens.
Many players matured
in 2003 into good quality team members and competitors. Ritchie Stone impressed with both
bat and ball and the hard-hitting of Josh Barnes and Chris Casey was a sight to
behold...once they got going. The challenges will be great again next season as the side
moves up to the Under 15 league, but this group have a new found spirit and have a winning
edge which should hold them in good stead.
