Second team - 2002 season summary |
The second team had an up and down season finishing fourth in Division Six of the Wiltshire League. After three wins out of three at the beginning of the season, the momentum was certainly lost when four games in a row were lost, mainly to the weather. First game back was unfortunately against Litten Tree, the side that eventually won the league by a long way. Highlight of the season, certainly in terms of excitement, was the very high scoring tie against Calne where the last hit from Kris Beasley fell tantilisingly short of the boundary needed to win and the three runs meant an exciting tie. The last over was relayed live by mobile phone to the Biddestone clubhouse and there was apparently much analysis of the score book at the end of the game to try to find the elusive winning run. The last month summarised the season with a win one week followed by a loss the next. The batting was strengthened for much of the season by Pete Talbot who batted well and scored some big scores whilst never quite reaching the magical three figure mark. He was ably supported by captain Mike Chrystal who led from the front. Sam Thornton batted well on occasions and is sure to make a big impression next year if he finds some consistency. The bowling was led by Nobby Stiles and he received good backing from Alden Meunch. This could be a formidable opening attack next season. John Lawton 20th September 2002 2002 Roll of honour
